Thierry Gaytan

Producer, Director, Author

Thierry Gaytán is now an independent director-producer and a born traveller. First a photojournalist, driven by instinct for images, he became an investigative journalist by passion and an observer by curiosity. He often says he “was born a reporter”.

His path, shaped by major field experiences and investigations, has taken him across the world. From an early age, he made information and images his commitment, always defending a more human approach to reality.

After successful first steps in photography, he quickly became a permanent correspondent for major Colombian television channels (CARACOL and RCN). He covers major events on all continents, particularly in Latin America.

A man of the field, he directs and produces numerous documentaries and reports broadcast on major French channels (France 2, TF1, M6, Canal+) as well as abroad.

A hunter of destinies

A true “hunter of destinies”, he follows with his camera, sometimes hidden, people who are humble or famous, dignified or disturbing, victims or executioners, all shaping or enduring today’s reality: ordinary lives in Havana or Calcutta, emerald miners in Colombia, clandestine migrants, drug traffickers and the underworld.

Thierry Gaytán has one objective: to inform the public about real lives and convince as many people as possible that we need to change the way we look at the world. What began as field experience became a life story: more than 20 years of unusual investigations.

20 years of investigations in Latin America

Director-journalist for various television channels in France, Thierry Gaytán unveils in his book twenty years of investigations across Latin America: testifying, explaining violence, hitmen, despair in Cuba or Medellín, and narcoterrorist groups.

He infiltrated cartels, followed criminal minors and migrants on the road to exile. He found himself in the Colombian jungle at the mercy of hostage takers. The behind-the-scenes of his reports tell what cannot be seen, what you do not know.
