Since the 1959 revolution, around 230,000 Cubans have tried to flee Fidel Castro’s dictatorship for Florida aboard makeshift boats.
For a year, Thierry Gaytan followed Marise-Ladi and Rodolfo, who decided to enter the United States illegally in the hope of a better life.
Marise-Ladi, a psychologist, earns 30 euros a month and plans to reach Florida on a raft. Rodolfo sold his house for 3,500 euros to reach California through Mexico.
